The skin around the eyes has a thickness of 0.5mm, which is one of the most delicate and sensitive. Skin in this area must be taken extra care and attention to prevent premature aging and other disturbances. Below are some guidelines that may help you in maintaining a healthy skin around your eyes.
  1. Have enough rest and sleep. Observe seven to eight hours of sleep every night in order to reduce dark circles around the eyes. Remember also to elevate your head slightly in order to prevent fluid in accumulating around the eye area that may cause puffiness and baggy eyes.
  2. Apply an eye cream around your eyes to maintain moisture in the skin.
  3. Use the ring finger when applying cream or other beauty products around the eyes for it exerts less pressure.
  4. Avoid rubbing your eyes to prevent infection. Furthermore, rubbing can break the blood vessels around your eyes, causing the dark circles to appear.
  5. Apply cotton pads dipped in chilled milk over closed eyes for 10 minutes. In this case, the muscles will be relaxed and refreshed after a tiresome day.
  6. A sliced potato along with its peel, when applied on closed eyes will make the muscles to be firm.
  7. A sliced cucumber over closed eyes can prevent dark circles from developing.
  8. Washing the eyes with cold water refreshes the skin around your eyes.
  9. A gentle massage on the eyes helps the blood in the area to circulate. Remember that the finger movement must always be down to up.
  10. If you are wearing contact lenses, make it a point that you don’t wear them for extended periods or overnight, for they can cause strain to the eyes.
  11. Avoid using handkerchiefs in wiping your eyes; instead practice the use of disposable tissues, which are by far more hygienic to your delicate eyes.
  12. A 15-feet distance must be maintained when watching television, and a two feet distance when reading a book in order to strengthen the muscles around the eyes.
  13. Use cream based products as an eye makeup because powdery products may enter the eyes and cause irritation and infection.
